There are specific gelcoat products for either spray or brush applications.
The spray gelcoat is applied using either airless, air assist or with air atomised equipment. With the air atomised equipment it is necessary to use a spray gun with a fairly large orifice and several sets of atomising orifices for positive breakup of
the heavy gelcoat. A thickness of ±600 microns of gelcoat is applied to the mould and checked with a wet film thickness gauge. A gelcoat which is too thin (<300micron) could cause under-cure of the gelcoat and too thick a film (>900micron) could
crack under flexing.
The brush gelcoats are formulated to have the correct drag on the brush, release air and level correctly. As with the spray grades, the proper thickness should be applied to achieve the best results.

Store the gelcoats in their original containers with the lids closed and out of direct sunlight. Temperature must be below 25°C for maximum shelf life
