NCS Standard Colour Range

NCS Resins pigment pastes and coloured gelcoats are manufactured to the highest standards and are colour controlled using sophisticated colour matching technology. NCS Resins offers a comprehensive and fast colour matching service to provide literally hundreds of colours, other than those represented in this standard colour range.

This guide was prepared to give you, our clients, a general indication of what our colours look like. One cannot however, match a colour off a computer screen so please contact your nearest branch to obtain a colour swatch – then use that swatch to (as closely as possible) match the colour you wish to get.

Standard Colour Range

NCS Resins pigment pastes and coloured gelcoats are manufactured to the highest standards and are colour controlled using sophisticated colour matching computer technology. Many years of experience with the use of polyester pigment pastes and gelcoats in marine and other industrial applications, enable NCS Resins to be confident of superior weathering performance of these products.

All pigment pastes and gelcoats are based on stable, colourfast and lightfast pigments. NCS Resins also offers a comprehensive and fast colour matching service to provide literally hundreds of colours, other than those represented on this colour range. For details of this service, please contact your local NCS Resins representative. NCS Resins standard pigment pastes, as illustrated on this colour chart, are available in either 500g or 5kg containers. For the industrial user 25kg and 225kg containers are available to order.

It is recommended that, where mouldings are produced as sub-components of larger structures, or are simply large structures, that sufficient resin and pigment paste are mixed to enable the entire job to be completed, thus ensuring an exact colour match. Similarly, if coloured gelcoat is used, it is recommended that the same batch of materials is used throughout the application as well as sub-components.

Thorough stirring of the mix shortly before use is recommended to ensure that the pigment is fully dispersed and that no separation has occurred. Care must be taken not to introduce air into the system. Users are reminded, that the final colour of the cured gelcoat and laminate can be affected by the curing system or the colour of the gelcoat or resin to which the pigment paste is added, particularly when heavily filled systems are used, and therefore the colour samples here are intended purely for guidance and exact matching to the final laminate colour cannot be guaranteed. Users are advised to consult application bulletins which deal with the methods of use and scope of application of NCS Resins pigment pastes. Based on extensive testing on our range of pigments, a limited number of suitable colours have been identified for use in swimming pool applications.

The loading percentages stated in the table are provided as a guide to select the correct addition level for each pigment paste to provide opacity at a wet film thickness of 0,4 – 0,6mm. Additions of pigment paste above 15% may be detrimental to the performance of the gelcoat. It is recommended that for white, off-white, yellow, orange and red shades a pre-pigmented gelcoat be used rather than the pigment paste. Should one require pigment loadings above these levels, it is recommended that the nearest NCS Resins branch representative be contacted for assistance and guidance.
